Urban Brew Studios has transformed substantially, since entering the television production industry in 1995. The ongoing evolution of the production house, which is 100% owned by Kagiso Media, has led to a fully inclusive management team that reflects South Africa’s diverse population. The eleven member executive committee is now made up of more than 70% previously disadvantaged individuals and more than 60% females.

Verona Duwarkah



Verona takes up the position of Urban Brew Studios CEO with immediate effect. During her 26 year career in the media industry, she has held various leadership positions at the SABC including General Manager of Strategic Projects between 2007 and 2012 and Group Executive of SABC Television between 2012 and 2016.

Tshepo Mashishi

Head of URF (Urban Rhythm Factory)


Tshepo completed his studies with BA in Motion Picture in 2009, where he majored in Sound Design. His experience includes working as an onset and post audio engineer on  few television and film productions. Tshepo joined Urban Brew studios in 2010 as an audio post engineer and composer.

Caitriona (Cait) Smith

Business Partner Finance


Cait joins Urban Brew Studios in a Business Partner Finance capacity reporting into the CEO and taking functional direction from the Group CFO of Kagiso Media.  Previous experience includes various roles with IBM in both South Africa and Ireland. Her last position was as Global Technology Services Risk and Compliance Manager supporting Middle East and Africa. She has a FCCA UK qualification.

Adelaide Joshua

Head of Production


In 1995 Adelaide received a national diploma in Speech and Drama from Natal Technikon.  In 2016 she obtained a distinction in a senior management programme through Gibs Business School.  She was appointed as the executive producer of SABC 1’s YOTV in April 2009.  Adelaide oversees the scripted, unscripted and global divisions for Urban Brew Studios.

Theunis DuToit

Head of Facilities:IT, Systems and Broadcast Architecture

Theunis has more than a decade worth of experience in the music & audio post production industry, working with various different local and international artists in the industry.  He took on the position as Head of Urban Rhythm Factory in March 2016 with the focus on music composition/production, music publishing and audio post production.

Kenosi Lekaota

Senior HR Manager


Kenosi has extensive HR experience across numerous sectors. Prior to joining Urban Brew Studios she worked within the Kagiso Media group as HR Consultant for East Coast Radio. She has also held positions at Business Connexion and Old Mutual.
